Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic drainage massage is a form of massage that encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body. The fluid in the lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from the bodily tissues. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) massage is frequently recommended by plastic surgeons during the recovery phase following cosmetic liposuction. This specialized form of massage is generally believed to decrease recovery time and improve results, by reducing post-surgical swelling and fibrosis (scar tissue formation)..

What helps lymphatic drainage after surgery?

Post-Surgery Garments to Assist Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Compression garments help the entire process. They prevent the buildup of too many toxin-carrying fluids in any one area of the body and help the body keep excess fluids from sticking around where they don’t belong. Wearing a compression garment after liposuction helps the body recover and increases your comfort during the healing process.  A compression garment applies even pressure across the treatment area, preventing excessive fluid buildup and helping your body absorb any fluid that does accumulate. A compression garment will help prevent any tissue swelling, help with discomfort, and ensure that you will get the best possible body contouring results. It’s recommended that you wear  the compression garment in the areas treated for up to 8-12 weeks after surgery.

Post-Op Ultrasound Lymphatic/Manual Drainage Therapy

Manuel Lymphatic Drainage Massage with Ultrasound Therapy. Ultrasound  therapy is used to reduce pain and inflammation and to accelerate healing after soft tissue injury. Recommended for clients starting treatment within 2 weeks of surgery.

Ultrasound Lymphatic Drainage with Unoisetion Cavitation

Manual/ Ultrasound Lymphatic Drainage with Cavitation. Cavitation destroys subcutaneous fat cells in the fat cell membranes through a series of microscopic implosions. Cavitation is designed to help reduce the fat bulges and pockets that remain after lipo to smooth and sculpt your body. Recommended for clients starting treatment 2-4 weeks after surgery or longer.

How important is lymph drainage?

The proper functioning of the lymphatic system is critical to our body’s ability to drain fluids, detoxify, regenerate tissues, filter out toxins and foreign substances, and maintain a healthy immune system.

Body Shaping with Kinesio Taping

Taping the area where the tummy tuck or liposuction has been done can help decrease the swelling. The area around where the invasive surgery has been done may fluctuate in size during the post-operative period, taping can help decrease this fluctuation.

In order to maintain good results after liposuction, you should incorporate more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein into your diet, while reducing the intake of sugars, simple carbohydrates, and saturated fats.
